The Guardian’s property editor gets real estate award



The Guardian’s position as the flagship of Nigerian print media was reinforced at the weekend, when its Property Editor, Mr. Chinedum Uwaegbulam, was honoured by the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI), Nigeria chapter, as the best journalist in the nation’s real estate sector for 2016.

He was recognised alongside Chuka Uroko of Business Day newspaper at the second FIABCI yearly award and business dinner with the theme: “ Real Estate: It is all about the Economy” in Lagos.

Uwaegbulam was celebrated by the professional body which comprises top real estate developers, investors and members of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) for his professionalism and ingenuity in analysing issues and promoting the development of the building industry in the country.


The event was attended by Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Gbolahan Lawal, foremost economist, Dr. Doyin Salami, NIESV’s National President, Bolarinwa Patunola-Ajayi, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) National President, managing directors of real estate companies, representatives of financial institutions, friends and partners nationwide.

In other categories, ACCL won the architectural and design award for 2016 while Actis was recognised as the most influential investor in the sector for the outgone year.

Stanbic IBTC Bank carted home the most influential financial partner in real estate in 2016, while the most influential developer in the industry was UPDC Property Development Company.

In his remarks, Lawal stressed the important role of the sector in revamping the economy. This, he said, informed Lagos’ huge and continuous investment in infrastructure, engagement with private developers and other stakeholders to fashion out a friendly housing development plan.

He charged the association to come up with initiatives that are smart, competitive and affordable, promising that government would be willing to buy into such.
