The Chairman and publisher of The Guardian newspaper, Lady Maiden Ibru, has been honoured with a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by ThisDay Newspaper.
The award was presented during ThisDay’s 30th anniversary and Arise TV 12th award anniversary in Lagos last night.
Lady Maiden Ibru, was recognised for her sterling qualities and role in upholding the legacy of The Guardian. In her acceptance speech, Lady Ibru expressed gratitude to ThisDay Newspaper for the honour.
In his speech, founding Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of ThisDay media and Arise News Channel, Nduka Obaigbena, recalled Arthur Mbanefo who once told him that if you want to be an editor, facing the colonial masters, you must have a background.
“That is why when we fought together during the Abacha years, we learned to fly with that passion. So today, no matter what, no matter how tough the times go, we’ll get tougher. It is a privilege to honour, on the beck of Nigeria, because we believe, if we honour our best, our children will do better,” he said.
The event was attended by the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, media leaders, government officials, and other dignitaries.
