Threats on Ndigbo resident in Lagos are empty, says Ohanaeze chieftain

President of the Supreme Council of Southern Ethnic Youths in Nigeria, Arthur Obiora, has dismissed threats against Ndigbo resident in Lagos.

Obiora, who is also the President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC), made this known in an interview with journalists in Onitsha, Anambra State, yesterday, observing that misguided youthful elements of Yoruba stock are only being allegedly sponsored by the political class to create disaffection and distraction from the controversial 2023 elections.

He urged Ndigbo not to be afraid, noting that Igbo youths are on top of the situation.

According to him, well-meaning Yoruba elder statesmen such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and other patriotic chieftains of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, are against threats against Ndigbo. He, therefore, urged them to remain law-abiding and go about their normal businesses.

Obiora called on respected Yoruba leaders and elite to call the youthful people, who are being used to achieve selfish political gains, to order, noting that Igbo youths would not fold their hands in the event of escalated attacks.

The Deputy National President of Coalition of All Ethnic Groups in Nigeria further warned politicians and ethnic bigots creating enmity between Igbo and Yoruba to stop, as “fearless Igbo youths” know who they are, and would fish them out to face the consequences.

Obiora, while calling for equity, justice and fairness in national dealings, lamented that the increasing anti-Igbo sentiments in Lagos is a fallout of poor and partial handling of the 2023 elections, especially the presidential election.
