Tinubu commissions projects in Adamawa, urges govs to prioritise citizens’ welfare

President Bola Tinubu on Monday called on state governors to remain committed to prioritizing the welfare of citizens, describing investment in the people as the most profitable venture in a democracy.

The President made the remarks in Yola during the commissioning of projects executed by Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State.

Tinubu stressed that good governance must be rooted in the needs and aspirations of the people, noting that democracy can only thrive when elected leaders pursue policies that directly improve citizens’ quality of life.

“Governance is not merely about holding political office; it is about service and measurable impact,” the President said. “The only profitable investment in democracy is investment in the people.”

He urged governors across the country to sustain efforts in economic growth, infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education reform and social protection, while also encouraging stronger collaboration between federal and state governments to ensure that development reaches grassroots communities.

The President commended Fintiri’s leadership and achievements, describing him as “a true reflection of who we are as a united people.” He also called on citizens to give their governors maximum cooperation to enable them deliver on their mandates.

In his remarks, governor Fintiri reeled out numerous projects completed by his administration, including a new NYSC orientation camp nearing completion, the Yola Model School, the dualization of Gimba Road, the expansion and remodeling of the High Court complex, and the construction of a modern shopping mall.

The governor disclosed that 5,000 teachers had been employed to strengthen the state’s education sector and power newly commissioned schools. He added that his administration was tackling water scarcity across the state and announced plans to name the NYSC orientation camp after President Tinubu.

Fintiri described education as the greatest weapon against poverty and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security, vowing to work with federal authorities to defeat banditry and terrorism.

President Tinubu expressed optimism about the future of the state, saying he sees hope in the faces of the people of Adamawa and reiterating his call for leaders at all levels to carry the people along in governance.
