President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his focused leadership and commitment to delivering critical infrastructure projects across Abuja, saying the visible transformation of the nation’s capital reflects the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, spoke on Friday while commissioning Collector Roads 01 and 02 in Mabushi District, one of the projects lined up to mark the administration’s third anniversary.
The President said the new roads would improve connectivity, ease traffic congestion and stimulate economic activities within the district and adjoining communities.
According to him, the project goes beyond the construction of roads, as it opens up opportunities for businesses and residents by reducing travel time and enhancing mobility across the Federal Capital Territory.
“For many years, movement in this part of the capital was a struggle. Today, that changes,” he said, noting that infrastructure remains the backbone of a modern economy and a key driver of national development.
Tinubu praised Wike for translating government policies into tangible projects, saying he had faithfully carried out the mandate to ensure that development reaches every part of the FCT.
“I gave you a simple charge: ‘Make Abuja work for all.’ You took it and ran with it. From satellite towns to the city centre, you are turning blueprints into roads people can drive on today.
“Your energy, your insistence on delivery and your refusal to accept excuses are why the FCT is transforming under this administration. Nigerians see it. I see it. Well done, Minister Wike,” the President said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a world-class capital city where no community would be left behind, stressing that improved interconnectivity would continue to drive economic growth, job creation and improved quality of life for residents.
Tinubu also appealed to residents to protect public infrastructure and continue supporting the government’s development agenda.
Earlier, Wike attributed the pace of infrastructure delivery in the FCT to Tinubu’s unwavering support and leadership, saying the President had consistently provided the political backing and resources required to execute projects across the territory.
He noted that the commissioning formed part of a 31-day programme designed to showcase projects executed under the administration, adding that almost every district in the FCT had benefited from one intervention or another.
According to him, Tinubu had directed that development should not be concentrated in the city centre alone but extended to satellite towns and underserved communities.
“We have virtually touched every district in the Federal Capital Territory because of Mr President’s directive that every district must feel the impact of this administration,” Wike said.
The minister argued that road infrastructure remains the foundation of economic development, pointing to the rapid growth in real estate and commercial activities in areas opened up by new roads.
“Road is the bedrock of any development. Once roads are constructed, investments follow, businesses grow and communities expand,” he said.
Wike also took a swipe at critics of the administration’s infrastructure drive, insisting that ongoing projects had demonstrated the value of sustained investment in road construction.
In her remarks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described Tinubu as the driving force behind the Renewed Hope Agenda, whose leadership continues to inspire infrastructural renewal across the territory.
She also lauded Wike as “a master builder” of the nation’s capital, commending his determination to translate development plans into visible projects.
Mahmoud urged residents to safeguard public infrastructure and work collectively to ensure that the investments continue to benefit present and future generations.
The newly commissioned Collector Roads 01 and 02 are expected to improve access within Mabushi District, reduce travel time for commuters and enhance connectivity between the district and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
