President Bola Tinubu departed Brasília, Brazil, for Abuja early Wednesday, concluding a high-level visit aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between Nigeria and Brazil. The presidential jet left Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at approximately 12:57 a.m. local time, with Brazilian officials, including Amb. Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Amb. Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Ambassador of Brazil to Nigeria, present to bid farewell.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and other government officials were also in attendance, alongside a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas.

President Tinubu had arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, where he was received with full military honours. During the visit, he held private talks with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and senior Brazilian officials, overseeing the signing of five Memoranda of Understanding covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture.

He also met with the Director-General of Brazil’s Securities and Exchange Commission and the Board of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, praising Nigeria’s capital market performance as evidence of growing investor confidence in his administration’s reforms.

On the sidelines, Tinubu engaged in additional discussions to deepen cooperation in trade, education, and innovation, and met with members of the Nigerian diaspora in Brazil, encouraging their active participation in nation-building.
