President Bola Tinubu has approved a new round of appointments across key education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.

For NECO, the President appointed Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board, while retaining the Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi.

In the polytechnic sub-sector, Dr Bongfa Binfa was named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State. He succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the pioneer Rector whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026.

The appointment, for a single term of five years, followed a competitive selection process initiated through a public advertisement in September 2025.

Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.

He also lectured in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

For the NBTE, Tinubu appointed Prof. Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the Governing Board.

Earlier, on April 10, the President reappointed the Executive Secretary, Prof. Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term.

Salako is a renowned researcher with extensive experience in higher education and policy leadership.

He served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, during which the institute recorded notable progress in research governance, infrastructure, and international collaborations.

Similarly, the President approved the renewal of the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for a final term of five years.

She was first appointed on September 2, 2021. Under her leadership, the organisation has undergone significant reforms to transform it into a technology-driven knowledge institution.

The President expressed confidence that the Renewed Mandate would ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, completion of the headquarters project, and the successful implementation of the institution’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
