Tinubu not dullard, will reshuffle cabinet when necessary – Omisore
Former Osun State Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, on Friday, appealed to Nigerians to give President Bola Tinubu more time as he takes ‘bold moves’ to reposition Nigeria’s ailing economy, stressing that people shouldn’t pressure the President or question his judgment on when to reshuffle the cabinet.
Omisore said that it would be wrong for people to mount pressure or view the President as a dullard who may not know when to rejig his cabinet when necessary.
Omisore, who resigned unceremoniously from his position as national secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023, made the appeal as a guest on ‘Inside Sources with Laolu Akande,’ a socio-political programme aired on Channels Television every Friday.
He said that reshuffling the cabinet is entirely up to the President, arguing that the President is aware of public opinion and will make the necessary changes when the time is right.
He said, “The issue of rejigging the cabinet is the prerogative of the President. The constitution says that the ministers hold their posts at the pleasure of the President because he (Tinubu) is engaging too. He knows the feedback from the people. He knows what to do at the right time and our President today is smart.
“He is not a dullard; he knows what he wants and for what purposes. And I am sure if he deems fit that he has to rejig his cabinet, he will have to do it. That is why you see the ministers correcting themselves. So far, it is a work in progress.”
Omisore argued that the President deserves praise instead of the criticism he is receiving from several quarters over his decision to remove the contentious petrol subsidy and float the naira a few months into his administration.
The APC chief also pleaded for Tinubu to be given more time for his economic policies to start yielding the needed dividends, as ‘Rome was not built in a day.’
