Tinubu orders new Abuja road project

President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu yesterday directed the immediate construction of a new road linking Kaba, Kagini and Zaudna communities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while declaring that the era of abandoned infrastructure projects in Abuja has ended.

The president gave the directive during the commissioning of the rehabilitated 15-kilometre Old Keffi Road, from Kado Village through Life Camp to Dei-Dei Junction, on the Outer Northern Expressway, saying his administration would continue to extend development to underserved communities.

Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu approved the new road project after residents displayed banners at the event highlighting the poor state of access roads in their communities.

“We are not slowing down,” Tinubu said. “Across the FCT, from the centre to the area councils, we are building for inclusion, for safety and for growth. Every district deserves access. Every citizen deserves to feel the impact of government where they are.”

Meanwhile, Tinubu described the completion of the Old Keffi Road as evidence that his administration was fulfilling its commitment to complete critical infrastructure projects.

He noted that the newly rehabilitated road would restore dignity to daily commuting while boosting economic activities across Kado, Saburi, Gwagwa, Idu, Karmo and Dei-Dei.

According to him, the project features modern drainage systems and street lighting under the Light Up Abuja initiative, improving both safety and commercial activities after dark.

Meanwhile, he commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for driving infrastructure development across both the city centre and satellite communities, describing him as a minister focused on delivering measurable results.

Earlier, Wike said the project fulfilled a promise made to residents and traders who had consistently demanded the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road, following the successful completion of the Saburi Road. He recalled that during the area council election campaign, traders appealed to him to relay their request to the president.

Wike had also dramatically invited the banner-carrying residents requesting another road project to step forward, before announcing that Tinubu had immediately approved the construction of the Kaba-Kagini-Zaudna road.
