Tiv community seeks end to herdsmen’s, farmers’ feud

Members of the association of Tiv community, Edo State branch, have called on the Federal Government to intensify effort in tackling the nefarious activities of some Fulani herdsmen across the country, particularly in their hometown in Benue State.

According to the members, the failure to adequately address the menace of the herdsmen may likely lead to food scarcity next year, as the state is the food basket of the nation.

President of the association, Sir Yina Alfred Iordyeh, while speaking to newsmen yesterday at a special thanksgiving service held in Benin City, said the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in tackling the menace of Fulani herdsmen is not commensurate with government’s effort in the fight against insurgency in the North East.

Iordyeh lauded government’s effort in tackling insecurity in the North East and over-running the Boko Haram insurgents, but lamented the worrisome attitude of government towards addressing the herdsmen menace many parts of the country.

“Killings by the herdsmen are on the increase daily. The Federal Government needs to do more to put an end to these senseless killings. What we have seen is that government is focused on only tackling the issue of insurgency in the North East, militancy in the Niger Delta and IPOB, but on the Fulani herdsmen issue, they are not doing enough,” he said.
