TODAY being Valentine’s Day offers a great opportunity to open a special bottle of wine to spice it up. It does not matter whether you are dining out; most restaurants offer a great wine list that will accompany their menu perfectly. For those in the comfort of their home, there are bottles at different prices to suit various preferences.

For those who do not know exactly how to go about selecting wine for this romantic occasion, wine enthusiasts offer a guide on how to settle for something that will make the moments pleasurable.

New wine drinkers will find off-dry or sweet wine, red or white an exciting choice. Since most new wine drinkers really like the sweeter types of wine, some examples that can fit into this taste include the German style Riesling and Moscato.

Another suggestion is Champagne, which is also sweet. Though there are dry Champagnes, but those are generally not too popular.

Some delightful versions come in names such as Moet et Chandon, Nicolas Feuillatte, Billecart-Salmon, Laurent Perrier, Ruinart, Henri Billiot and many others.

Among the less expensive but pleasurable choices are Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noir, Graham Beck Brut Rose, Gruet Brut Rose, Lucien Albrecht Cremant d’Alsace Brut Rose and Michelle Brut Rose.

To get the right taste of your wine, serve it chilled, not icy. Matching it with delicate, savoury food and you should be set for a fun-filled day.
