Succour came the way of a section of the persons living with disabilities (PLWD) in Abuja recently, as Nollywood award-winning actress, Mrs. Tonto Dikeh-Churchill, offered scholarship to 200 of them that are of school age.

Dikeh-Churchill made this known while commissioning the road she constructed on behalf of her Foundation to ease movement, promote development and improve business activities at Disabled Colony at Karimajiji in the outskirts of the federal capital.

She had pledged to construct the road leading to the colony during the ‘Walk for Love’ event at Millennium Park, Abuja on December 3 to commemorate the world disability day, which was attended by dignitaries and celebrities around the country to share, interact and give back to the less privileged.

The actress, at the occasion, promised to commence the scholarship programme by paying yearly school fees for 200 pupils.

Dikeh-Churchill, who also organised a Christmas party for the PLWD, added: “I would have loved to pay the children’s school fees for four years, but I would like to start with paying one year ‎school fees for 200 pupils.

“An educated child is an asset to society. It is one of the best gifts you can give to vulnerable Nigerians. I will not relent in giving back to society.

“The spirit of sharing and giving is biblical and it is also an African tradition that generates happiness and ensures social stability in the absence of a formal social security mechanism that caters for the less privileged in our society.

“We must not forget the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and special persons in our midst and those who have suffered untold hardship as a result of activities of insurgents and terrorists.”

She reiterated that the road would help relevant stakeholders, philanthropist and other non-governmental organisations access and provide support to the Disabled Colony.

She commended the Foundation’s Manager Mr. Bunmi Fagbuyiro, Ambassador Jonathan Ojadah Daniel and team members of the Foundation for their undiluted logistic support.
