Tor Tiv, Torkula, for burial Feb 4
BENUE State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has fixed February 4, 2016 for the funeral rites of Orchivirigh Alfred Akawe Torkula, Tor Tiv IV and late chairman of the state’s Council of Chiefs.
The governor in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua, said the date was arrived at after a meeting with the Tiv Area Traditional Council.
He added that the traditional council had announced the constitution of a central planning committee for the burial.
The committee is chaired by General Atom Kpera (rtd) while Senator Joseph Kennedy Nyikwagh Waku and Hon. Titus Zam, Special Adviser, Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs are deputy chairman and secretary respectively.
Ortom further charged the body to liaise with the family and relevant stakeholders in drawing up a comprehensive programme for a simple but befitting farewell for the departed monarch.
