Transcorp Group Chairman, Elumelu marks World Environment Day with tree planting

Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality subsidiary of Transcorp Group, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship by hosting a special tree planting ceremony to celebrate World Environment Day.

Transcorp Hotels Plc, the hospitality subsidiary of Transcorp Group, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship by hosting a special tree planting ceremony to celebrate World Environment Day.

The event was graced by the Chairman, Transcorp Group, Tony Elumelu, who personally planted a tree on the premises of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, to mark the day.

Surrounded by the management and staff of the hotel, the hospitality outfit stated that the ceremony was a symbolic act, and a reminder that trees are critical in mitigating the impact of climate change.

World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5 as a global initiative to encourage worldwide awareness and action for the protection of environment.

“As an organization that is committed to improving lives, transforming society, reducing carbon footprints and preserving the natural resources that make our planet thrive, Transcorp Hotels is dedicated to the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals, particularly those related to responsible consumption and production, climate action and life on land.

“By integrating sustainability into its core values and operations, Transcorp Hotels aims to drive positive social and environmental impacts while delivering exceptional hospitality experiences to its guests.

The Chairman, Elumelu shortly after the symbolic planting exercise, said: Today is tree planting at the iconic Transcorp Hotel. We are totally compliant with sustainability and world environmental concerns. We will like to promote the environment and nature.

He added that the exercise was part of the hotel’s effort to illuminate humanity and the earth. According to him, the hotel’s focus was not just profit making but equally, ensuring that progress is made towards sustaining the environment.

“What we have done today is bringing more light to humanity and earth. For us, it is not just about profitability but making profit in a sustainable fashion and carrying the environment along towards making sure we make it better than we met it.

“We are happy to be contributing to the World Environment Day and the sustainability concerns of the world.”

Elumelu urged every individual safe the earth by engaging in tree planting.

“Each one of us should do what that will make the world a safer place for everyone and deal with climate issues. To the management of Transcorp Hotels, a very big congratulations and kudos”, he said.
Dupe Olusola, Managing Director/CEO of Transcorp Hotels Plc, who also planted a tree, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “At Transcorp Hotels Plc, we believe that sustainability is not just an option but a responsibility. By planting this tree, we are taking a tangible step towards creating a greener future and will continue to implement sustainable practices throughout our operations which will inspire our guests to be mindful of their environmental impact.”

Transcorp Hotels Plc is committed to sustainable practices and environmental-friendly initiatives with a strong recycling programme, the organization donates a portion of the proceeds from its recyclable waste to the ‘Bottles for Books’ Initiative, which supports waste collectors and out-of-school children every year.
