Transparency group wants President, others sanctioned for violating electoral laws
Centre For Transparency and Advocacy (CTA), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), yesterday, called for the arrest of President Muhammadu Buhari and other politicians, who ran foul of the electoral laws, by showing members of the public where they voted or who indulged in violence during the last presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking at a stakeholders advocacy meeting entitled: “Towards the 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections”, in Asaba, the Executive Director of CTA, Faith Nwadishi, said politicians, who tampered with ballot papers or showed their ballot papers while casting their votes, should face the music, saying they are the ones that will not allow the system to work as they always go against rules for personal interest.
Nwadishi, an engineer, stated that the high level of electoral violence that took place at polling units across the state was uncalled for
“It is important at this juncture to remind politicians of the Peace Accord they voluntarily signed. This has become important as the heat of the elections and campaigns have intensified. Over 52 election-related acts of violence were recorded in 22 states before the general election.”
“This number is scary and must not be allowed to fester. We call on politicians to respect the peace accord they voluntarily signed, rein in their supporters, respect other candidates, not use abusive words and to shun violence as we have only one country that we can call our own,” she noted.
