The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved ruling on the application by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) for live streaming of the proceedings till Monday.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja has reserved ruling on the application by Peter Obi and the Labour Party (LP) for live streaming of the proceedings till Monday.

Obi is challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s declaration of the candidate of the All Progressive Party (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

The Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member Tribunal announced the reservation of its ruling on Friday after the lawyers to the two political parties adopted their various processes.

Lawyer to Obi and the LP, Awa Kalu (SAN) thereafter urged the court to grant the application in the interest of the public.

Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN) for INEC, Wole Olanipekun (SAN) for Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettma as well as Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) for the APC moved their various counter affidavits and prayed the court to reject the application for being without merit and constituting a distraction to the court.

The Tribunal has adjourned till Saturday for further pre-hearing session in the petition.

Justice Tsammani had on Wednesday adjourned the date to Friday due to the failure of parties to agree on documents among other reasons.

During the day’s proceedings on Wednesday, the Labour Party’s factional leaders clashed over seats at the presidential election petition court.

The altercation occurred when the party’s acting national chairman, Lamidi Apapa confronted Akin Osuntokun, director-general of Obi’s presidential campaign council upon the former’s arrival in the courtroom.

Apapa claimed that, as the rightful head of the Labour Party, he belonged in the plaintiffs’ gallery.

At a press conference, Apapa after the drama accused Obi of masterminding his attacks arguing that if Obi who is in court to seek justice cannot refuse to Obey court order on authenticating him as chairman.
