Trinity University celebrates festive season with carol of seven lessons
To celebrate the festive period, Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, has marked the end of the year with song ministrations to spread goodwill and the love of Christ.
The event tagged ‘The Carol of Seven Lessons’, witnessed ministrations by the university choir which comprises students and staff to the delight of guests and friends of the institution.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Clement Kolawole, said the university, founded by a group of Christians, celebrate the value of Christianity and believe it is important to join others worldwide to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, saying all the successes they have recorded is made possible by God.
He said the university using the carol as a way to thank God for all what they have accomplished, adding that the fifth edition of the carol, presented the institution an opportunity to celebrate with its students and commended them for good conduct.
Kolawole said: “As a Christian university, one that believes in the intervention of God in its affairs, we are celebrating with carol and using it as an opportunity to show God’s love to our students and make them live within themselves, sharing the love of God that binds together.”
The vice chancellor, however, stressed the need to develop the education sector, saying the government must commit more resources to it.
He also enjoined all stakeholders, especially corporate organisations, business leaders and industries to complement the efforts of government by setting aside certain potion of their profit to sponsor indigent students.
Lecturer and the institution’s music minister, Omosebi Paul Adeoye, said the composition and selection of songs was done in such a way to cause people to reflect on God’s grace, and be thankful for life.
He said: “This particular one is the carol of seven lessons. For each lesson or two, we have different songs like ‘Silent Night’, ‘The 12 days of Christmas’, ‘All hail the power of Jesus’ among others. Others are medleys of different songs that are use to celebrate the Christmas season.
Adeoye said the university choir is a place for students to nurture and develop their music talents while focusing on other academic activities.
