Troops crackdown on illegal oil bunkering in Rivers, Bayelsa

In a renewed effort to combat illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta region, the troops of Operation Delta Safe have destroyed several illegal refining sites and recovered over 40,000 litres of stolen and illegally refined products.

The Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division, Army Public Relations, Lt Col Danjuma Jonah, said the troops identified several illegal refining sites in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

According to him, in Rivers, the troops destroyed three illegal refining sites in Etche Local Council and destroyed over 30,000 litres of illicit products.

“Items, including receivers and connecting pipes, were also seized and destroyed.

“In Bayelsa State, troops confiscated over 12,000 litres of stolen and illegally refined products, along with equipment such as fibre boats, ovens, metal drums, and storage facilities.

“Other items recovered include one fibre boat, five ovens, several metal drums, and reservoirs used as storage facilities,” he said.

The General Officer Commanding the 6 Division, who is also the Land Component Commander, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, commended the troops for their efforts.

He urged them to continue denying criminal elements freedom of action in the region and ensure the integrity of pipelines.
