The Armed Forces of Nigeria have intensified military offensives across the North-East, recording fresh gains against insurgents through coordinated clearance operations, arrests, recoveries and voluntary surrenders by suspected terrorists and their family members.

According to operational updates released by the military, troops under Operation HADIN KAI carried out a series of offensives in parts of Borno and Yobe states aimed at dismantling insurgent networks and cutting off logistics supply routes used by terrorist groups.

On May 15, troops deployed in Kirawa conducted clearance operations through Valle general area, Ashigashiya and Gakara communities in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where two terrorists were neutralised during a fierce exchange of fire.

In another operation on May 16, troops working alongside local hunters reportedly raided insurgent logistics networks at Kwayar Kusar Market in Kwayar Kusar LGA of Borno State. Security operatives arrested four suspected cattle rustlers and collaborators allegedly linked to terrorist groups.

The suspects were said to have been found with six cows reportedly intended for illegal sale on behalf of insurgents.

The military also disclosed that several humanitarian rescues and voluntary surrenders were recorded during the operations.

On May 17, an adult male family member linked to insurgents reportedly escaped from the Kwatara enclave in the Mandara Mountains and surrendered to troops along the Gwoza-Limankara route due to sustained military pressure and lack of basic supplies within the enclave.

This was followed on May 19 by the surrender of two adult women and seven minors to troops in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State. Another female identified as Alisha Sale also surrendered to troops in Dikwa town on the same day.

Meanwhile, troops conducting routine security checks in Kukawa LGA on May 20 apprehended a female suspect allegedly attempting to smuggle food items and hijabs to her son, Modu Mustapha, described by the military as a notorious terrorist commander operating in Mobbar LGA of Borno State.

The military further revealed that a 20-year-old suspect identified as Babakaka Bukar surrendered to troops at the Forward Operating Base in Mairari, Nganzai LGA, handing over an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a mobile phone.

On May 21, troops arrested another suspected logistics supplier at a checkpoint in Bama with food items and materials allegedly meant for terrorists, while in Yobe State soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition abandoned by fleeing insurgents during operations.

The Armed Forces said the coordinated operations, carried out alongside other security agencies, form part of ongoing nationwide offensives targeting terrorist cells, violent criminal groups and economic saboteurs.

The military added that troops remain committed to sustaining operational pressure aimed at restoring security and stability across affected regions.
