Troops neutralize bandit, recover weapons in Taraba

Taraba state

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recorded fresh operational successes in Taraba State under the ongoing military campaign codenamed Operation Lafiyan Jamaa.

In a statement issued weekend, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Olubodunde Oni, confirmed that the troops neutralized a bandit and recovered weapons during a precision strike on May 3, 2025.

Oni said the operation was carried out around Gafar Village in Ussa Local Government Area, a location identified as a key crossing point exploited by criminal elements for attacks and theft.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops engaged the suspects in a firefight, leading to the death of one bandit. An AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle stolen from a civilian were recovered at the scene.

In a separate offensive, troops responded swiftly to intelligence reports on the movement of suspected bandits traveling from Tongo and Garin Alkali in Adamawa State toward the Shana community in the Bali Local Government Area.

The soldiers pursued the suspects into Yunkunssu Forest, where contact was made. Overwhelmed by the troops’ firepower, the bandits fled, abandoning their weapons.

Subsequent searches led to the recovery of a locally fabricated revolver, an AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The army spokesperson stated that the operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS to ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens in Taraba State.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid security operations.
