Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole of the Nigerian Army in strict adherence to Rules of Engagement and international conventions on armed conflict, rescued an injured Boko Haram terrorist, identified as Mustapha Abba.

A statement by Army spokesman, Brig. Gen. Sani Kukasheka Usman, in Abuja, yesterday said Abba was captured during a counter attack operation launched by the troops following an attack at their location.

He noted that his colleagues abandoned him during a gun battle with the troops in one of the remote Forward Operating Bases in Ngala council area.

Usman said Abba narrated how eight of his Boko Haram colleagues were killed by the troops and recovered three AK 47 rifles, two AK 47 magazines, two FN rifle magazines and three PKM link belts from them.

“The surviving terrorist was happy that he survived. He thanked the Nigerian Army for sparing his life and taking care of his wounds.

“He said that he and his other colleagues were subdued by superior fire power of the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole. He further narrated that his other fleeing Boko Haram colleagues abandoned him to his fate after a bullet hit him.

“To worsen his situation, one of his legs was crushed by their own vehicle as they scampered for safety. He said, “if the troops had not taken him and administered first aid on him he would have bled to death,” the statement added.
