Trump Strengthens Ties with China, Assures of more Global Peace

BARELY 72 hours to his inauguration, the United States of America’s President-elect, Donald Trump, has declared that the nation would resolve its differences with China to foster development and global peace.

Trump, on his X Handle on Friday, revealed that he was on a mutual phone conversation with the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, adding that they agreed to resolve various issues threatening a cold war between the two superpowers.

“It is my expectation that we will solve many problems together, and starting immediately. We discussed balancing Trade, Fentanyl, TikTok, and many other subjects.

“President Xi and I will do everything possible to make the World more peaceful and safe,” he wrote on the social media post.

Prior to the call, America and China are enmeshed in trade fisticuffs; and this too may not be unconnected to the BRICS efforts to destroy the dominance of Dollars in the global market.

It will be recalled that last year the US Congress passed a bill to ban the video platform, Tiktok, which is owned by a Chinese company, alleging it’s gross involvement in content manipulation and privacy breach.

Though the President-elect had earlier foresworn to clamp a steep tariffs of about 60 percent on Chinese imports, his phone call three days to assumption of office as the 45th US President establishes a propitious relationship with China.

According to sources, Trump’s foresworn trade policies may further set both countries at each other’s jugular, threatening situation that may jeopardize world peace and lead to unrest.

In recent years, both countries had disagreed on trade terms, Chinese influence in the Asia Pacific Region, status of Taiwan; while Chinese exports to the US totalled around $401bn, while its imports from the US amounted to $130bn.

Trump’s successor, Joe Biden, whose administration called Beijing the “most consequential geopolitical challenge” for Washington, also prioritised the competition with China and tried to deepen US ties with allies in the Asia Pacific.

The US has raised series of alarms about Chinese cyber attacks and flying a spy balloon over the country, but the latter had denied all the allegations as untrue.

Amidst the growing tension, Trump and his aides have iterated that the incoming administration is exploring every available means to save Tiktok from the Federal ban and further foster mutual international relationship with China.
