The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has called on Nigerians not to demoralise the military troops following the unfortunate bombing of villages in Tudun Biri, Kaduna state.

CDS Musa pleaded with members of the public not to demoralise the troops by their actions or utterances when he appeared on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television on Tuesday.

“We understand that generally, everybody feels bad, we also feel very bad. Anytime we have mistakes, we take ownership, and we feel extremely very bad about it, especially when even when we lose our own troops,” he said.

“We just want Nigerians to understand that the incident was never deliberate. We will never deliberately target our citizens because our mandate is to protect Nigerians, innocent Nigerians and we will continue to do that.

“We have actually continued to do that but it is unfortunate that out of the 99 successes that we have had, this one has given us a lot of negative responses. We know that Nigerians want success and we are working towards succeeding.

“However, we should not, by our actions or utterances, demoralise our troops. These guys stay awake so you can sleep.

“It is easier for you to say they made a mistake, they’re not doing well. If they pull out of these locations, what happens? We will not even have a country.”

Musa was also asked on Sunrise Daily if there is an update on the investigation of the matter?

“The federal government has set up a committee that will look into it. We don’t want to be comfortable but we know at the end of it, the truth will come out,” he said.

“And then, everybody will really understand that it was definitely a mistake as there were lots of activities that were going on within that very area.”

The Army accidentally bombed villagers of Tundun Biri during the Maulad celebration after which the tragic incident drew angry responses from Nigerians.

The unfortunate incident, which occurred on December 3, 2023, resulted in the death of over 100 persons, leaving many others injured.
