The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of paramilitary personnel across Nigeria.

Tunji-Ojo made this known on Wednesday at the launch of the new camouflage uniform of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), a full fledged Para-military agency of the Federal Government.

“Yesterday, at the launch of the new camouflage uniform of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, I reiterated the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) to the welfare of our paramilitary personnel,” he posted on X.

Tunji-Ojo added that the FG will show commitment to their welfare vis a vis timely promotion, payment of allowance, upward review of salaries and the establishment of the Paramilitary Pensions Board.

The Minister said that it is the hope of the Federal Government that this will further boost the confidence of paramilitary personnel to deliver more on their constitutional duties.

In another development, Tunji-Ojo visited the United Nations House in Abuja on Tuesday at the Donor Round Table on Correctional Service Reform, where he canvassed for the support of international development partners towards reforming the Nigerian Correctional Service, an agency under the Ministry of Interior.

The event was organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Nigeria and was attended by the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. Matthias Schmale.

Other attendees were the UNODC Country Representative, Oliver Stolpe, the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa.

Top officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, UNFPA, concerned NGOs, diplomats and international communities including the Italian Ambassador, and representatives of the governments of Germany, Qatar and the USA also attended the event.
