Two die, five injured in Anambra road crash

Two people were killed, while five others sustained injuries in a fatal accident that occurred along Onitsha-Awka Expressway in Anambra State.

Eyewitness said that the crash which happened about 8.45p.m. on Sunday evening, involved an articulated truck and a commercial bus.
  
According to the witness, the bus driver allegedly lost control and rammed into the stationary truck from behind.
  
He said: “The truck driver abandoned the vehicle after it developed a fault and placed a caution sign at the front and rear.

“But the bus driver who was on speed rammed into the truck from the rear and crashed.”
   
Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),  Adeoye Irelewuyi, who confirmed the incident, attributed the cause of the accident  to obstruction and excessive speed.
  
He said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary, while the injured had been taken to hospital for medical attention.
 
Irelewuyi,  who condoled with the deceased person’s families, wished the injured quick recovery.
He also warned motorists against overspeeding, urging them to maintain the speed limit.
 
He said: “Unidentified driver of a Mack truck with registration No. FKJ22XJ and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration No. GDD68ZP were involved in a fatal road traffic crash on August 14 at about 20:45hrs. Probable cause of the crash was road obstruction and excessive speed.
 
“12 people comprising eight male adults and four female adults were involved in the crash.  Five people, comprising three male adults and two female adults sustained injuries, while two male adults were killed.
 
“FRSC first responders from RS5.33 Nteje Unit Command took the injured victims to a yet to be confirmed hospital, while the dead victims were taken to New Word mortuary Nteje.”
