Two women, baby trapped as building collapses in Ebute-Metta

A one-storey building with a penthouse collapsed in the early hours of Friday morning, trapping two adult women and a baby inside.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, but the cause of the collapse remains unknown.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident in a statement, stating they received a distress call at 9:00 a.m. about the collapse at 122 Herbert Macaulay Way, Lagos Bus Stop, Ebute-Metta.

Director Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed the incident, said that search and rescue efforts are underway to reach the trapped individuals.

“Two adults and a baby, all females, are currently trapped, and search and rescue efforts are underway,” Adeseye said.

Adeseye also disclosed that one adult female has been successfully extricated from the debris and is in stable condition.

“However, an adult female has been successfully rescued and is in stable condition, with the State Emergency Response fully activated,” she said.

The cause of the building’s collapse is still under investigation, Adeseye said.
