U.S. pledges to support Rivers cancer hospital
United States of America has indicated interest to support Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Disease Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in Rivers State.
The U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Will Stevens, disclosed this at a closed-door meeting hosted by the state governor, Nyesom Wike, at his private residence in Rumuepirikom Community in Obio Akpor Council of the state, yesterday.
The centre is one of the critical health facilities in Rivers constructed by the Wike administration, and will be ready for inauguration in November 2022.
The U.S. diplomat spoke to journalists after the meeting and said they are particularly fascinated about the tremendous work Wike is doing in the state.
Stevens described, as incredible, the accomplishment, which the governor has recorded in combating the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the state.
“Rivers is one of the leading states in the country that has reached 97 per cent of people living with HIV/AIDS in the last three years alone, who are on treatment, from 19 per cent in 2019.”
Stevens also noted that his discussion with the governor was extensive in the areas of trade and investment opportunities, which are open to both Rivers and the U.S. to mutually explore.
