Uba made the observation in Awka, Anambra State, yesterday, during the inauguration of 27 directorates for the Senator Andy Uba Governorship Campaign Organisation (SAUGCO).
The senator charged members of the directorates to immediately move into wards and units to moblise people for the November poll, reminding them that elections were won and lost at the polling units and not state capital.
Reiterating that votes must count in the November election, he warned that nobody should be deceived that somebody would sit in the comfort of his room and write the results.
He advised members of the directorates not to engage in propaganda but to be concerned with the party’s manifesto, which is mainly about welfare of the masses and taking the state to greater heights.
“Everybody must be at work now to ensure that the party wins this election. Move into local councils, units and wards and mobilise people for the party’s victory.
“We need to tell the people about our manifesto and not behaving like others who are attacking without raising issues. We need facts in our campaign and not propaganda,” he noted.
Speaking on his top priorities, the APC governorship hopeful promised to conduct council poll within six months of his administration as governor.
According to him, since the return of democracy in 1999, Anambra only conducted one council election at the twilight of Peter Obi’s two-term administration.
Taking a swipe on Governor Willie Obiano’s administration in the state, Uba wondered why he had not conducted council poll.
He said: “In the seven and half years of the Obiano administration in the state, no local council poll has been conducted. The local council administration is critical to the state’s development. With duly elected government officials, wealth would be distributed in the state.”
The conduct of council election will create employment for the youths, while people in the local areas would be empowered, he asserted.
