UI workers suspend strike
Striking non-teaching staff unions of the University of Ibadan (UI) yesterday suspended their two-week strike. They were protesting non-payment of their salary arrears.
Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and the Non-Academic Staff Unions (NASU) had embarked on a warning strike since July 29 to protest shortfall in salary payment and the ownership of staff school.
The suspension of the strike resuscitated administrative activities at the university as students resumed for second semester of the 2015/2016 session.
Addressing reporters, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, lauded intervention of individuals, bodies and groups to ensure successful negotiations that saw to the end of the strike.
He disclosed that the staff school issue was being resolved, saying a committee has been set up.
