ULS unveils new Jolly Phonics materials to boost literacy in Nigeria

Universal Learning Solutions (ULS)

As part of efforts to broaden access to effective literacy resources for schools, educators, and families across Nigeria, Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) has introduced a new range of high-quality Jolly Phonics learning materials designed to support early reading development.

The materials were unveiled at the Nigerian International Book Fair 2026 held in Lagos from May 13 to 15, attracting educators, publishers, school owners and literacy stakeholders who explored the new resources and their potential impact on literacy development.

The initiative builds on the widespread adoption of Jolly Phonics in public schools over the past decade through partnerships with State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

Speaking on the launch, Chief Executive Officer of Universal Learning Solutions, Gary Foxcroft, said the project would make globally recognised literacy materials more accessible to both public and private schools at a time when the demand for effective reading solutions is increasing.

“We are excited to bring these high quality materials to the Nigerian market at a time when demand for effective literacy solutions has never been greater,” Foxcroft said.

He added: “The success of Jolly Phonics in government schools through the support of SUBEBs and UBEC has demonstrated the transformational impact that Jolly Phonics teaching can have on children’s reading outcomes. We are now looking forward to making these resources even more accessible to schools and families across Nigeria.”

As part of efforts to drive adoption of the programme, ULS will host a national webinar on June 4, 2026, bringing together education stakeholders from across the country to discuss the newly introduced literacy resources, partnership opportunities and sustainable strategies for implementing phonics teaching.

The webinar will feature Chris Jolly OBE, creator of the Jolly Phonics programme and publisher of Jolly Learning, alongside members of the Jolly Learning team, ULS executives and representatives of key education institutions.

Foxcroft disclosed that officials of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, the National Association of Private School Owners, school directors and proprietors are also expected to participate.
