Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on state governors to get involved in supervisory activity of ongoing federal roads in their states, threatening not to refund any amount spent on a federal road project, which is not properly supervised by the state.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on state governors to get involved in supervisory activity of ongoing federal roads in their states, threatening not to refund any amount spent on a federal road project, which is not properly supervised by the state.
Umahi stated this at the weekend, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, at the Government House, Owerri. He said that by doing so, quality jobs, based on specifications, would be carried out.
The minister commended the governor for executing quality federal road work and other projects in various parts of the state, attracting commendations from the people. He, therefore, urged other governors to emulate him.
However, angered by the slow pace of work on Ama Nwozuzu-Orie Amaraku Road contract, Umahi announced his intention, on behalf of the Federal Government, to terminate the contract over non-deployment of equal funds, which was mobilised to site.
He said: “Owerri-Okigwe Road happens to be one of the best federal roads I have visited.
“Imo residents and, indeed, the South East are blessed to have Uzodimma, as his handwork is already showing everywhere.
“Let me thank you for the work you have done in the state, which has shown in the neatness and beauty of the capital city.”
Umahi promised to ensure that the Orlu-Mgbe-Akokwa-Uga Road is captured in the 2024 budget.
ALSO, the minister, at the weekend, insisted on constructing roads with concrete pavement, noting that it is long lasting. Umahi stated this during his visit to the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, as part of his tour of the state to inspect federal roads. The minister added that his insistence on concrete pavement for federal road construction is because the ones he built in Ebonyi as the governor of the state over the last seven years have not collapsed.
He pleaded with Nigerians to give maximum support to President Bola Tinubu, stressing that the President’s policies will uplift the country. On who replaces him at the Senate, Umahi made it clear that as a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholder in the state, he has the right to decide his replacement as the Senator representing Ebonyi South. He said: “We would ensure that the party zones the ticket to Ohaozara (Umahi’s local council) and it will not leave there.”
