Umeh Narrates Ordeal In Hands Of DSS

Former APGA National chairman, Umeh

Former National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the flag bearer in the rescheduled Anambra Central Senatorial re-run election, Chief Victor Umeh, who was a guest of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) in Abuja on Thursday returned to Awka yesterday into the waiting hands of a mammoth crowd of party supporters and well wishers.

Despite insinuations that political rivals were behind the arrest of Umeh, indications have emerged that he was invited to clarify some of his statements, which the DSS believed to be inflammatory.

Also, an aide to former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, has urged Umeh to leave Obi out of his troubles.

But the party, while condemning Umeh’s arrest, fingered his political opponents as masterminds.Narrating his ordeal, Umeh said he got a text message from the State Director of DSS, Anambra state on Wednesday inviting him for a meeting at the headquarters.
Umeh said although he did not know the purpose of the meeting, he scheduled the meeting for Thursday after a trip to Enugu to witness the judgment in the case brought by his former opponent in the Senatorial election, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife.

However, at 7am on Thursday, he got another invitation from the same Director of DSS, Anambra state, informing him that the meeting was urgent.

“When I got to the state security office, and after being seated for a while, a man walked to me and the Director pointed at me, saying that is him.“Immediately, the Directors’ guest informed me that he was taking me to Abuja to answer to some charges”.

Continuing, he said, “As soon as my medications were brought in, I was whisked off in a fashion only a coup plotter would be whisked off. I got signs that their mission was serious when I came out to board my vehicle only to see fierce-looking security men wielding automatic rifles. I was then sandwiched in between two operatives at the back seat of a white pick up and they drove to Abuja.

“When the head of interrogation spoke to me, he brought a red file and said that he had reports that I insulted the President and incited the youths. They said they got report that if I win the Senate, I will unite the youths of Southeast and Niger Delta and wage war against the country. Also, that there was an issue concerning Fulani cattle rearers.”
