Women and youths from conflict-affected local councils of Kaduna State have benefitted from an empowerment programme at the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) Vocational Training Centre, Kaduna, yesterday.

The government of Norway and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) funded the programme, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Peace Commission (KSPC), for sustainable employment for the victims.

UNDP noted that 86 beneficiaries were carefully identified among the numerous victims of violent conflicts in the state, such as Jema’a, Kajuru, Kaura and Zangon Kataf local councils.

As part of the healing, the graduates underwent a two-week re-orientation programme at the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC), Shere Hills, Jos, in May 2021 and were later taken to NDE, Kaduna, for a 6-month skill acquisition programme in seven trades.

ALSO, in Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum has returned 639 Internally displaced Persons (IDP) households in Malari community of Konduga Local Council with N58.5 million for their basic needs.

Distributing the relief materials, yesterday, at Malari village, Zulum disclosed that the resettled households had been living in IDP camps for over seven years.

According to him, the resettlement followed the rebuilding of 803 houses destroyed by terrorists.

“The state’s Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (MRRR) under its Commissioner, Mustapha Gubio, rebuilt the houses,” he said.

The governor also directed the allocation of N100,000 to each of the 500 community members whose houses we
re not part of the rebuilt 803.

“The sum of N50m will also be shared to the 500 IDP returnees,” he said.
