UNICEF Nigeria reiterates partnership with government, support for children
United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria has reiterated its readiness to continue its partnership with the Federal Government and states to provide support for millions of children.
Speaking at the end of its Youth Talk for Convention on the Rights of the Child at 30th celebration in Calabar, the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF, Enugu, Mr. Ibrahim Conteh, said his organisation provides government support for its strategic plan.
The event was organised by UNICEF Nigeria, in collaboration with the Cross River Ministry of Women Affairs, the UK-AID, the Federal Government of Nigeria and other stakeholders.
He said: “At UNICEF, our mandate is children, and we support children in different aspects, such as water and sanitation, nutrition, education, health, HIV/AID and others. We also support the government in public finance management in making sure that the government is able to provide sufficient budget for children’s issues.
“So, we engage a lot with the government during the budgeting process, sector plan to make sure that the issues of children are embedded in government strategic plan.”
In a welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Cross River State Ministry of Women Affairs, represented by Mrs. Helen Ofem, lauded UNICEF, UK-AID and the Cross River State government for providing enabling environment to celebrate CRC at 30 in Calabar, and challenged the children to bring their thoughts to bear on.
