The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has strengthened its collaboration with the Ondo State Government to intensify efforts on prevention and public awareness campaigns against Lassa fever in the state.

This development was highlighted during a courtesy visit by UNICEF representatives, Social and Behaviour Change Specialist (SBCC), Mrs Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole, and SBCC officer, Mrs Monike Orhorhemreni, to Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, in Akure, the state capital

Akinola-Akinwole noted that the prevalence of Lassa fever in the country remains a serious public health concern, adding that UNICEF’s ongoing campaigns are focused on raising awareness about its causes, prevention, and control.

Ajanaku commended UNICEF for its consistent partnership with the state over the years, describing the organisation as a trusted ally in health communication and development initiatives.

He pledged the state’s commitment to supporting all campaigns aimed at promoting public health and preventing disease outbreaks, particularly Lassa fever.

The commissioner further pledged enhanced collaboration through the ministry to ensure wider sensitisation of residents, stressing that maintaining a healthy society remains a top priority of the administration.

He also said that the state government had consistently responded decisively to reported cases of Lassa fever and commended the Commissioner for Health, Dr Banji Ajaka, for his efforts in maintaining effective standard protocols across health facilities.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening partnership in health communication and community engagement, with a shared resolve to reduce the spread of Lassa fever and improve overall public health outcomes in Ondo State.
