The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting selected programmes under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, with a focus on health, nutrition, human capital development, and education.

The pledge came during a courtesy visit by a UNICEF delegation led by Country Representative Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef to Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday.

Vice President Shettima described UNICEF’s engagement as a critical partnership in advancing national development goals.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a man of courage and conviction and he is doing everything possible to redefine the concept of modern leadership in Nigeria. We are on the cusp of regenerating our economy and rebuilding this nation. The gains of our reforms are manifesting by the day, the inflationary trend is on the decline and by the end of the year, the economy will further stabilize for all to see,” he said.

The Vice President highlighted the administration’s commitment to legacy projects in health and nutrition, including the Nutrition 774 Initiative, Economic and Financial Inclusion, and the Nutrition Intervention Fund.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration with development partners to enhance the effectiveness of these programmes.

“We have worked with your colleagues on different programmes across the country in the past and I believe that your coming will bring on board new experience, exposure, and the capacity for value addition to what we are doing,” Shettima said.

Ms. Abdelatef acknowledged the Vice President’s role in promoting humanitarian and developmental causes both within Nigeria and internationally. She assured the administration of UNICEF’s continued alignment with its priorities.

“UNICEF is committed to supporting programmes on nutrition, human capital development, and education of the girl child, among others,” she said.

The UNICEF representative also commended the Federal Government’s interventions such as the Nutrition 774 Initiative, the Nutrition Intervention Fund, and the Nutrition Bill, noting that the government’s strategic vision and implementation capacity provide a foundation for effective impact in the country.

The meeting reflects ongoing collaboration between Nigeria and UNICEF aimed at enhancing the delivery of social services, improving child welfare, and building resilience in communities through targeted development programmes.
