The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos (UNILAG)chapter has directed its members to withdraw their services indefinitely over what it described as “amputated” salaries for January and February 2026.
The decision was taken at an emergency congress of ASUU-UNILAG held yesterday evening at the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Theatre.
In a resolution issued after the meeting, the union said the withdrawal of services would take effect from today (Wednesday) until the university pays the affected salaries in full.
The resolution was signed by the chairperson and secretary of ASUU-UNILAG, Prof Idou Keinde and Prof Adesina Arikawe, both professors, respectively.
The union said its members received incomplete salaries for January 2026 across the university’s campuses.
According to the resolution, staff on the Akoka campus were not paid Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), while those at the Idi-Araba campus were denied both EAA and the Clinical Academic Teaching Allowance (CATA).
It also alleged that the university administration unilaterally paid what it described as an “amputated” salary for February 2026 to its members.
While the union condemned the action, it stated that it violated all the tenets of decency and portrayed the university administration as insensitive to the welfare of academic staff.
Following deliberations, the congress unanimously rejected the payment of the reduced salaries, noting that such treatment was inconsistent with what obtains in other federal universities of similar status.
The union said its decision was also in line with a subsisting pre-National Delegates Conference resolution of ASUU’s National Executive Council adopted in May, 2025.
ASUU-UNILAG therefore resolved that its members would withdraw their services from today until the university pays the full salaries for January and February 2026.
The union insisted that the industrial action would remain in force until all outstanding payments are settled.
