ACADEMIC and social activities at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) were disrupted yesterday for over three hours by the protesting staff unions who barricaded the school main gate.

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the institution’s chapters, during their peaceful protest prevented motorists and visitors from entering and going out of the institution for several hours.

The demands of the union according to the SSANU Chairman, Comrade Adetomiwa Adekola, includes, refund of unlawful and illegal deductions of contributory pension from members’ salaries since July 2004; payment of December salaries, otherwise known as 13th month salaries between 2007 and 2014; payment of earned allowances, especially the hazard allowance, among other issues.
