Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) Joint Action Committee (NJAC) has refuted calls for the sack of the Director General of the agency, Prof. Charles Anosike.
The union insisted that their demands are centered around improved welfare for the staff of the agency, and not to remove anyone from office
NJAC, in a statement, said the report did not emanate from the workforce and was done to discredit the unions in their fight for a better NiMet.
They asserted that most of the problems that made them embark on the strike were inherited by the present management, and the issues have been escalated to the Minister for Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, who stepped in to douse all nerves.
NJAC asserted that they have the highest regard for Anosike as they work in synergy to achieve common goals for the agency.
“We therefore categorically state here that the general public should disregard any report stating otherwise,” they said.
The Deputy National President of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Comrade Samuel Oluchi, maintained that the union protects jobs and does not want anyone to lose their jobs
A national trustee of NUATE, Comrade Okunbor Hycent, blamed the malicious reports on some individuals who want to capitalize on the strike to achieve a selfish agenda.
He stated that while the union had planned a strike over longstanding welfare issues pending federal government approval, the action was suspended following discussions with Keyamo.
He noted that although the Director General attempted to prevent the strike, his efforts were insufficient.
