AFTER nearly two weeks of tension and boardroom intrigues, the governing council of the University of Port Harcourt has confirmed Professor Ndowa Lale, as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.

Lale, who hails from Eleme in Rivers State, was one of the three candidates who emerged from an intensive interview process that initially involved ten candidates who applied for the position.

The council voted ten to four in favour of Prof. Lale of the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences. He was the pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.

Chairman of the governing council, Mr. Gesi Asamaowei, who made the announcement yesterday, said Prof Lale emerged as the new vice chancellor following a competitive interview process. He explained that the appointment was confirmed by the governing council at the 155th meeting held on Tuesday, following the report of the joint council and Senate selection board.
