Unmask arsonists that burnt Obiozor’s home, group tells security agencies
The IGBONINE Socio-Cultural Organisation has condemned the razing of the Awo-Omamma, Imo State residence of the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor.
The organisation called on the security agencies to conduct “a thorough investigation into the dastardly act and bring the culprits of the arson to book.”
In a statement issued yesterday by its Secretary General, Dr. Dubas L. Agbasi, it urged Ndigbo at home and in the Diaspora to donate funds to refurbish Obiozor’s burnt residence to assure him that his years of service to his fatherland were not in vain.”
It described the incident as “a tragedy of immense dimension” for such a fate to befall Obiozor after his many years of dedicated service to the Igbo nation and Nigeria as Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Nigerian Ambassador to Israel and the United State and now President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
The group recalled that some years ago, miscreants also set ablaze the Ukehe, Enugu State residence of Prof. Obiozor’s predecessor, Chief Nnia Nwodo.
It wondered if brilliant and intelligent minds in society should abandon public service in Igboland to those he described as “dissidents and never-do-wells.”
