The Urhobo and Isoko Elites in Lagos will on Saturday, July 18, hold a special reception in honour of Samuel Egube, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State and former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.
The event is billed to hold at Shell Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos under the theme: “Celebrating excellence. honouring leadership. building legacy.”
According to the organisers, the reception is to recognise Egube’s contributions to public service and governance in Lagos State, and to acknowledge the contributions of Urhobo and Isoko professionals to the growth and development of the state.
The Urhobo and Isoko Elites in Lagos described the reception as more than an individual recognition.
The group said it is also aimed at celebrating leadership, integrity, public service and cultural heritage, and at inspiring younger professionals.
“The event will feature distinguished guests from government, the private sector, traditional institutions, the diplomatic community and professional bodies,” the group stated.
The Urhobo and Isoko Elites in Lagos is a network of professionals, business leaders, public servants, academics, entrepreneurs and community leaders.
The group said it is committed to unity, leadership excellence, cultural heritage, professional development, mentorship and strategic partnerships that contribute to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.
The organisers said the event will also be used to promote cultural pride and strengthen collaboration among Urhobo, Isoko and the wider South-South community in Lagos.
As Deputy Chief of Staff, Egube serves in a central administrative role within the Governor’s office, with responsibility for executive coordination and support to cabinet operations in Africa’s largest subnational economy. Before his current appointment, he served as Honourable Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget. In that role he was involved in development planning, fiscal coordination, budget strategy, performance reporting and alignment of public spending with state priorities.
During his tenure, he was Co-Chairman of the Ehingbeti Economic Summit, where the Lagos State Development Plan 2022–2052, the state’s 30-year growth roadmap, was unveiled.
He also served as Co-Chair of the Local Organising Committee for Invest Lagos 3.0, a state investment promotion platform, and chaired the Local Organising Committee for the E1 Lagos GP, the world’s first all-electric powerboat championship hosted in Lagos.
Organisers said the event recorded an estimated $100 million in investment value and was positioned to support tourism, marine enterprise and sustainability.
Prior to joining government, Egube worked in banking and financial advisory. He held leadership roles at Diamond Bank, now Access Bank, First Bank of Nigeria, NNB International Bank and United Bank for Africa, with experience in energy, corporate banking, retail banking and structured finance.
