UTME 2025 kicks off in 887 CBT centres

The 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has commenced in 887 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country.

The Guardian reports that over two million candidates are participating in the examination.

No fewer than 501 visually-impaired candidates are also set to take the examination in 11 centres across Nigeria.

Chairman of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), Professor Emeritus Peter Okebulola, made this known while addressing newsmen in Abuja.

JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, in 2017, set up the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) with Professor Okebukola as the chairman to oversee the smooth and orderly conduct of UTME for blind and other special needs candidates.

The chairman of JEOG, Okebulola, confirmed to newsmen that 501 candidates with visual impairment registered to sit the 2025 UTME in eleven centres nationwide.

He disclosed that JAMB has scheduled the examination for April 28 and 29, 2025, in the 11 centres involving 20 subjects.

“The candidates take the same test papers as the regular candidates, and standards are not lowered in any form,” he added.

Okebulola, who is also the President of the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNi-Africa), described Oloyede as one of the strongest pillars of equal opportunity of access to higher education in Africa.

Speaking with our correspondent, supervisors at some centres in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory, revealed that the examination started as planned at 6:30 am with biometric screening.

One of the supervisors at the Rosa Mystica Academy JAMB CBT Accredited Centre, Salihu Mustapha, stated that the candidates arrived early, which aided the smooth process of the examination.

“The candidates came out early. It is commendable. We started accreditation around 6:30 am, and the examination started promptly around 8 am,” he said.

Mustapha also lauded the centre for providing a conducive atmosphere for the examination, adding that there were no technical issues or challenges during the examination.

He noted that the centre hosted two sessions of the examination and that there would be three sessions on Friday and four on Saturday.

“With the way the examination is going, I do not envisage any challenge on the remaining days. I commend JAMB for its plan that has ensured that everything went as planned,” he said.

At the Ade-Ola International Schools JAMB CBT Accredited Centre, the Supervisor, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi, echoed Mustapha’s sentiments, commending JAMB, the candidates, and the center for their efforts in making the examination run smoothly.
