Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, has called for increased female participation in Nigeria’s capital market, citing financial inclusion as a crucial factor for wealth creation and economic development.

She made this call in Abuja during the launch of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Podcast, an initiative aimed at enhancing financial literacy and broadening investor participation.

Recognising the barriers women faced in the financial sector, Uzoka-Anite stressed the importance of policies and reforms that would create more opportunities for women in investment and wealth-building.

She stated that despite their strong financial management skills, women had continued to face systemic challenges limiting their full participation in the capital market.

The minister commended SEC for introducing the podcast as a tool to educate and empower Nigerians, particularly women, by providing accessible information on investment opportunities.

She noted that improved financial literacy would strengthen investor confidence and contribute to a more transparent and efficient capital market. She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting financial market reforms that drive investor participation, build trust, and promote economic stability.   According to her, a vibrant capital market is essential for boosting industries, creating jobs and achieving Nigeria’s economic goals, including the $1 trillion economy target.
SEC Director General, Dr Emomotimi Agama, said the podcast was designed to make financial and investment knowledge accessible to a wider audience, particularly those in remote areas.

He expressed optimism that the initiative would encourage more women to engage in the capital market and take advantage of available investment opportunities.

The SEC podcast is expected to simplify complex financial concepts, making them more understandable for everyday investors. By leveraging digital platforms, the commission aims to bridge knowledge gaps and attract a diverse range of participants, including women, young entrepreneurs and small business owners.

With this initiative, the SEC is reinforcing its commitment to financial inclusion and positioning the capital market as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic transformation.
