Vigilante Groups Comb Edo Forests For Kidnapped Expatriate
Vigilante groups from Auchi, Etsako West and Ivbiaro in Owan East local areas of Edo State have been combing the forest separating the two communities since Friday, with the aim of locating an expatriate working in one of the erosion sites in Auchi.
The foreigner was reportedly kidnapped at construction site on Friday morning. The Guardian gathered that some of the kidnappers first came to the site pretending to be looking for casual work, while another set stormed the place with arms to engaged policemen on duty in a gun duel and adopted their victim.
Auchi and Ivbiaro communities have mobilized their vigilante groups with support from the police to search of the expatriate worker. As at press time yesterday, the two communities have not established contact with the kidnappers.
The Police Public relations Officer (PPRO) at the Edo State Police Command, Stephen Onwochei, did not pick repeated calls, but a prince form the Auchi Palace confirmed the incident. “It is true a worker in the erosion site was kidnapped by suspected kidnappers.
They were fully armed and took their victim away into the forest between Auchi and Ivbiaro. Vigilante groups from both communities have been mobilised. With the support from the police, they are searching the forest because that was the rout they were said to have taken their victim to.”
