As part of activities to mark Mother’s Day, women in the Aso Villa Chapel yesterday honoured wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari. They described her as true mother of the nation‎.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and his wife, Dolapo, attended the service. Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Deaconess Joan Ayo, on behalf of the women, commended the President’s wife in her support for her husband in building a virile nation.

Ayo, who also described the wife of the President as a loving mother, said though when Mrs. Buhari marked her birthday and the church visited, she was not in a good mood, but noted that her joy and happiness were reignited when President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in the country hale and hearty.

“Now, we want to use this opportunity to celebrate her,” Ayo said. Mrs. Buhari, represented by Mrs. Grace Chamah, was presented a portrait depicting the role of a mother in the upbringing of a child.

In her sermon, the wife of the Vice President, Pastor (Mrs.) Dolapo Osinbajo, urged mothers in the country to teach their children good virtues. Reading from the book of Proverb 31: 1-10 and Judges 4:4-9, Mrs. Osinbajo charged them to be good women, saying: “The key thing in motherhood is the children. We need to teach our children the right way. Man shall not live by bread alone; so mothers need to teach our children spiritual things.

“Mothers, it is a day for celebration and it is also a day to remember our calling. A day to remember what the Lord requires of us.” The Chaplain of the Villa Chapel, Pastor Seyi Malomo, described mothers as “a special creature made from the refined product.”

In the same vein, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and his deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Banigo, have charged mothers to take greater interest in the affairs of their children by prevailing on them to shun negative behaviours.

In a message to mark this year’s Mother’s Day, Wike noted that mothers in the state have always lived up to their responsibilities but stressed the need for more. He gave assurance that his administration would continue to implement programmes that would enhance the capacity of women to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

Also, Banigo at the Anglican Church, Eliozu, Diocese of Evo in Obio-Akpor Local Council, enjoined Christians to imbibe godly virtues that would stand them out as true believers to justify the Christians they profess to be.
