With his just-released EP dubbed X, Vince The Commander stretches the proof that good music runs through the veins of the Nigerian music industry. Within the 5-tracker record, the Drake/Bryson Tiller-esque singer paints interesting love-themed narratives over gentle, mid-tempo tropical melodies.

From start to finish, the EP flaunts its artistic brilliance and authenticity, showing Vince’s vocal range and stellar lyricism. 

From songs like Faith, and For You, to Body, Vince tightens the vibe on this record, giving off a feel-good appeal and soothing energies. And without over-flogging cliches, he tackles the topics of love and romance, like putting old wine in a new skin. 

“The idea behind the EP is love and lost love. It was inspired by some personal experiences. Making this record was a healing process for me,” he tells Weekend Beats. 

He added that his moniker, ‘The Commander’ was also inspired by Ebenezer Obey’s Chief Commander title, which he feels blends with his dexterity at being a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, sound engineer and singer. 

With all indications of a stellar career path, Vince said his philosophy is to push his music forward and give back to his community. 

“If there is ever a musical Mount Rushmore, I want to be there. I want to make music that has an element of truth to it.”
