Alumni of Africa’s first training school for voice over talents, Voice Over Academy (VOA), have received multiple nominations for the ninth edition of the world’s biggest event in the industry at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California, United States and hosted by Society of Voice Arts Voice Arts and Sciences (SOVAS). The academy’s Head of Operations, Morenike Adams, reiterated the institute’s vision was to groom Africans for global recognition.

In a statement, she said: “Our VOA alumni network exists as a collective community of graduates with vision to be reference point for alumni networks in Africa. We help members to collaborate, share ideas, harness voice job opportunities, build voice-over brands and business connections, organise reunions and hangouts, as well as serve as exceptional models.

“The mission of this network is dedicated to changing the narrative about voice-over talents in Africa and across the globe. We are proud to say our network has produced some of Africa’s top and most influential voices.”

The ceremony had actors from Hollywood and others from around the world.

The nominations cut across English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese and English-speaking Africa. The nominees cover more than 100 categories ranging from voices for motion picture animation and television commercials to audio books, spoken word, political ads, toys and audio description for the blind and low-vision community.

The VOA alumni nominated for awards include: Stephanie Ugbeye; Eniola Keshinro; Serah Johnson; Femi ‘Bakes’ Olugbade and Team Dauntless. Johnson won award for Outstanding Narration Television or Film, Best African Voiceover.
