Enyeh Julius Akpovire, Publisher and Managing Director of The Witness Newspaper, is set to receive the African Media Personality Award at the 15th edition of the Voice Achievers Award and Business Summit scheduled to hold in London on August 21, 2026.
The event, organised by The Voice News Magazine, will take place at the Hilton London Kensington and is expected to bring together African entrepreneurs, diplomats, media professionals and global partners.
According to the organisers, this year’s edition is themed: “Putting Africa In The Right Perspective – Focusing On Mental Empowerment For Economic Inclusion & Growth.”
Akpovire is also expected to serve as a panellist during a session titled “Mental Empowerment for Economic Inclusion & Growth – The Role of the African Media.”
The organisers said the award recognises his contributions to journalism, media development and public discourse through The Witness Newspaper.
In a statement announcing the recognition, the organisation described Akpovire as “a pioneer whose work continues to put Africa in the right perspective while fostering the mental empowerment necessary for the continent’s economic inclusion and growth.”
The statement also praised his resilience and commitment to journalism despite professional challenges.
“He is a renowned journalist and steadfast media practitioner who has remained undeterred despite facing imprisonment and significant personal hardship in unwavering dedication,” the organisation stated.
Beyond journalism, the award organisers highlighted the humanitarian work of the The Witness Cares Foundation, launched in 2021 as the corporate social responsibility arm of the newspaper.
According to the statement, the foundation has supported widows and vulnerable children through education and healthcare interventions.
The organisation also acknowledged Akpovire’s work through Dial Icon Communications Limited, a strategic communications and public relations company involved in media relations, crisis communication, stakeholder engagement and advocacy campaigns.
President of the organisation, Elvis Ndubuisi Iruh, said the summit aims to promote mental and economic empowerment across Africa while strengthening ties between African professionals on the continent and in the diaspora.
The event will feature a business dialogue summit, award gala night, fashion showcases and networking sessions designed to encourage strategic partnerships and collaboration among African leaders globally.
Originally launched in Netherlands in 2012, the Voice Achievers Award has grown into an international platform recognising Africans and friends of Africa for contributions in leadership, diplomacy, media, business, humanitarian service and innovation.
Previous honourees include Fatou Bensouda, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Mama Ida Odinga.
The award has also recognised African First Ladies, including Jeannette Kagame and Fatoumata Bah Barrow.
This year’s edition will honour 28 personalities from across Africa and the diaspora for achievements in leadership, innovation, education, healthcare, media, diplomacy and humanitarian service.
