WABU title fight headlines De-Lads boxing championship

DE-LADS Boxing Promotion will, on Sunday, host a West African Boxing Union (WABU) lightweight title fight between American-born Nigerian pugilist, Abimbola Osundairo and defending champion, Godday Akpan, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

DE-LADS Boxing Promotion will, on Sunday, host a West African Boxing Union (WABU) lightweight title fight between American-born Nigerian pugilist, Abimbola Osundairo and defending champion, Godday Akpan, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

The title match, which is tagged, ‘Battle of All the ages season 2,’ will also feature other undercard professional and amateur fights featuring over 50 boxers.

Speaking at the unveiling of the championship at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, yesterday, president, De-Lads Boxing Promotion, Wasiu Waheed Alabi, said that the event was put together to keep creating boxing awareness in the country.

“The boxing event will have different fights of 10 rounds apart from the WABU fight. We want Nigerians to come and watch the best of boxing at all levels in both the women and men’s category. Most of the boxers, who will showcase their skills at the event has declared that they are battle ready,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Secretary, Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), who is also the president of the West African Boxing Union (WABU), Remi Aboderin, commended the promoter of the event, while advising the boxers to maintain good sportsmanship at the event.

America-based boxer, Osundairo, who has won three fights by knockout since he became a professional boxer, said his achievements in America would motivate him to outshine his opponents.

The organisers disclosed that tickets for the fights would be sold at the venue.
